October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The international health campaign is organized by major breast cancer charities to increase awareness of the disease and raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure. Ralph Lauren has been a long-standing leader in the fashion community regarding its commitment to fighting the disease. In 2000, the American fashion label launched the Pink Pony Campaign. This global initiative aims to reduce the disparities in cancer care and improve access to quality treatment for everyone at an earlier, more curable stage.

Each year, the brand launches a collection of sportswear, home goods, and accessories, benefiting the Pink Pony Fund of The Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation and an international network of cancer charities. But the Pink Pony campaign is just one aspect of the iconic fashion brand’s continued pledge to fight cancer. In 1989, Ralph Lauren co-founded the Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research at the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center in honor of its close friend and Washington Post fashion editor, Nina Hyde.

In 1994, Ralph Lauren designed the first logo for the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative, leading the fashion industry to support breast cancer research. In 2013, Ralph Lauren partnered with the nation’s leading cancer center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, in Harlem, New York City, to offer cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and support services. The MSK Ralph Lauren Center has cared for thousands of people, making it a beacon for accessible, compassionate cancer care for residents of Harlem and beyond.

The following year, the Ralph Lauren Corporation partnered with The Royal Marsden, the largest and most comprehensive cancer center in Europe, to develop a world-class research facility, the Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research.

Now, in the era of COVID-19, the fashion force continues its longstanding network of international cancer institutions to support those especially vulnerable, providing donations, meals, and products to frontline workers, families in need, and patients fighting cancer.
