Puppy eyeliner trend

It’s been a long time coming, but finally, the showdown between cats and dogs has reached the beauty world. Cat eyeliner has been ubiquitous in the makeup sphere for what feels like a lifetime, and now, puppy eyeliner has come for its crown. The K-beauty trend pops up every few years as an emerging trend, but this time it’s made its way to TikTok—and the makeup-loving masses are fascinated by the look.

Puppy eyeliner is very straightforward. Instead of a wing that turns up at the end toward the lash line (i.e., like a cat eye) the wing turns down, towards the lower lash line. It’s a way for those with hooded and deep-set eyes to achieve a wing that won’t get lost in their eye. The puppy liner hashtag on TikTok has amassed a whopping 9.6 million views and counting.

Dying to try this look? It’s rather simple: Grab an eyeliner—pencil, pen, liquid, kohl, eyeshadow, whatever—and start by looking directly into your mirror (you’ll be tempted to tilt your head, but avoid that at all costs). Then, line your upper lash line, extending the pigment out just past the crease of your eyelid, bringing the line down. If you were doing a cat-eye, you would go on top and fill in from there, but not here. Instead, you want to create a line from underneath, connecting from the eye’s lower lash line to the tip of the line you just created. Finally, fill it in with your eye pencil, making sure to fill in the corner of your waterline.

From there, it’s really up to you how you want to achieve the look. Maybe use a white pencil in the waterline to help boost the look, or smoke out with some eyeshadow. For inspiration, we recommend watching the accompanying TikTok video on repeat.
