Despite Prince William once revealing his favourite emoji was the eggplant, representatives for the heir apparent have declared he is chronically offline amidst growing calls for updates on his wife’s whereabouts following her ‘disappearance’.

Kate Middleton took a 71-day sojourn from public life following “planned abdominal surgery” in January. She was slated to remain out of the spotlight until Easter, however amounting calls for updates on the Princess’ recovery and location forced a schedule change, with the former Duchess of Cambridge required to charade around the grounds of Windsor Castle in an Audi in an attempt to quell theories that she had abandoned the monarchy. (Or more hilariously, taken refuge in Miami to get a BBL or try her hand at amateur theatre by playing an Oompa Loompa in Glasgow’s cursed Willy Wonka experience.)

Unfortunately for the palace, this obviously strategic farce wasn’t received well by the public, as many believed the ‘passenger princess’ to be a body double and not the actual Princess of Wales. But with Buckingham Palace keeping a stringent position regarding how much they’re willing to communicate with the public, the lack of transparency has prompted representatives of the Wales’ to step in to mitigate the discourse. Overnight, a statement was issued to the press, finally addressing the reports. But rather than reassure the public the situation was under control, they instead touched on why Prince William himself hasn’t openly discussed his wife’s recovery.

“His focus is on his work and not on social media,” a spokesman said in an attempt to rationalise his lack of conveyance. Prince William had only addressed Middleton’s absence one time prior. The 41-year-old said to the press on the 2024 BAFTAs red carpet, “I’m sorry Catherine’s not here. She does love the BAFTAs.”

It’s unclear what the palace’s next move is for Middleton, especially after the British Army removed mention of her appearance at the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June. Will she be thrust back into the spotlight like nothing has unfolded? Or, will she pull a Princess Diana and secretly set up an exclusive with the BBC to address the mystery she’s found herself centre in? Either way, there’s more to this story to come.
