Spoiler alert, but if you haven’t already watched the first serieswhat are you even doing? You would think that the original Gossip Girl and self-confessed lonely boy, Penn Badgley would be one of the first stars to watch the highly-anticipated reboot. After all, it was his character that inspired the franchise. But in a new interview ahead of his appearance in the third season of You, the actor has admitted to not watching the reboot – yet.

As much as we’d like to think it was some sort of dramatic boycott, Badgely is just really busy as a working father. “With a one-year-old and a 12-year-old and dogs and work, my wife and I,” the 34-year-old told InStyle, “we’ve still not finished Ted Lasso.”

The actor was catapulted to stardom after his portrayal of Dan Humphrey, a budding writer-turned-anonymous-gossip blogger from Brooklyn who attended an elite school in Manhattan. The series ran for six seasons between 2007 and 2012.

When he nabbed the lead role of Joe Goldberg in the Netflix original series You (who turns out to be a stalking murderous bachelor), it felt like a fitting progression. And the irony wasn’t lost on Badgley either, according to a recent episode of SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show

“I do think it’s brilliant casting in a way because there’s some kind of, like, dialogue between these two shows that are very different, but at the same time, there’s this very similar vein,” he said. “There’s this similar kind of bingey, frothiness, which characterizes so many shows. But yeah, I don’t know how it would’ve worked with another person.”

Season 3 of You will drop on to Netflix from October 15 (weekend plans: sorted) while yesterday it was already announced that the drama series would be renewed for a fourth season. Deadline first reported the news but a date has not yet been set.
