When Fleabag‘s second season hit screens, immediately the girls, gays and theys had one question on their lips: who is the Hot Priest? That man turned out to be the incredible Irish actor Andrew Scott, who, according to reports, is now linking up with another hot Irish man (and incredible actor): Paul Mescal.

Not only that, but it sounds like they will play lovers in a gay romance, helmed by Andrew Haigh, the director behind Weekend — famously one of the best gay love stories to be shown on film — 45 Years, and Lean on Pete.

Haigh has also brought on Rocketman actor Jamie Bell and The Crown alum Claire Foy to round out the cast of the drama, which is a loose adaptation of the 1987 Japanese novel of the same name by Taichi Yamada, Strangers.

According to the film’s description, Strangers follows a screenwriter (Scott) who, “one night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, has a chance encounter with his mysterious neighbor Harry (Mescal) that punctures the rhythm of his everyday life.”

“As Adam and Harry get closer, Adam is pulled back to his childhood home” where he discovers that his long-dead parents (Foy and Bell) are both, in actual fact, very much living and look the same age as the day they died over 30 years ago, the film’s description reads. A plot twist if ever I read one.

In a recent W magazine interview, newly Oscar-nominated Mescal, for his role in Aftersun, said he expects Strangers to come out “at the end of the year.” Until then, he’s busy shooting Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel.

We can barely wait.
