As a long-time friend of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton knows the artist through the highest of highs and lowest of lows. Appearing on a new episode of iHeartRadio podcast, This Is Paris, the 40-year-old celebrity has rallied once again in support for Spears. While Hilton admits she hasn’t watched the explosive new documentary The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears, she says she “can’t imagine being controlled like that.”
“I haven’t spoken to her in a few months. I haven’t even watched the film yet, because I’ve been so busy,” Hilton said. “But I heard it’s just a really sad movie. It makes me really feel for her, because she’s such a sweet girl and has such a big heart and I just can’t imagine being controlled like that. You know, when you’re an adult and you’ve worked your whole life for building this empire and then just to be treated like a child, it’s just not fair.”
Speaking with E! presenter Hunter March, Hilton also reflected on the negative press coverage she and Spears experienced at the heights of their careers.
“I’ve been reading all of these articles coming out where they were just saying, like, Britney, Paris and just like, a group of us were just were treated so unfairly and just like, this really misogynistic view and just being very cruel and mean and making fun of us,” Paris said. “It made me think a lot this week, reading all these new things that are coming out after the Britney film.”
The 40-year-old has spoken on Spears’ conservatorship in the past. In September 2020, she told Andy Cohen, “I feel like if you are an adult you should be able to live your life and not be controlled. I think that maybe stems from me being controlled so much so I can understand how that would feel and I can’t imagine right now if that was still happening to me. After just working your whole life and working so hard, she’s this icon and I just feel like she has no control of her life whatsoever and I just don’t think that’s fair.”
Her comments arrive the same day that Jamie Spears’ attorney appeared in an interview with Good Morning America urging people to not look at the father as a villain.
“I understand that every story needs a villain, but people have it so wrong here,” the attorney said. “This is a story about a fiercely loving, dedicated and loyal father who rescued his daughter from a life-threatening situation. People were harming her, and they were exploiting her. Jamie saved Britney’s life.”
The Oops I Did It Again artist’s conservatorship is valid until September 2021. More to come.
