Eighteen-year-old Olivia Rodrigo made her MTV VMAs debut in style this evening in Brooklyn, walking the red carpet in a cantaloupe column dress with magenta organza by Atelier Versace. (A very similar colorway to Camila Cabello in Alexis Mabille Couture.) And while I was tempted to make a “Good 4 U” joke right about now, it appears Donatella Versace has beaten me to the punchline.

“I knew Versace would be soooooo good 4 u,” the designer captioned a picture of Rodrigo on her Instagram feed. “I’m LOVING this archive look on you.” (Versace also dressed Lil Nas X this evening.)

From her date with the President at the White House to this evening, the singer – whose soft rock-pop hits have millions and millions harking back to their teenage obsession with Avril Lavigne (who is also in attendance tonight) – kept her look elegant. Her long hair was parted down the middle, and swept behind the ears to reveal a pair of stunning pink butterfly earrings.

The Doja Cat helmed event returned to its live glory this evening at the Barclay Center in New York with performances from Justin Bieber, Kacey Musgraves, Lil Nas X, Normani and Rodrigo expected shortly.

Rodrigo’s performance is particularly important for the young star who rose to fame during the pandemic and is yet to have a few live performances under her belt. “I think it was actually awesome, because there was this lack of pressure,” she told GQ in August. “If there was a concert and I could see that ‘Drivers License’ was being sung by thousands of people, I feel like I would’ve gotten in my head more than I did.”

More to come.
