There’s an old (or rather novel) adage that says, “If a woman wipes her Instagram clean, she’s ready to change her life.” So, when Normani completely archived her posts — except for one particular video — on the platform, fans began to wonder what transformation was on the horizon for the newly-minted solo artist. For the former Fifth Harmony songstress, the drastic Instagram makeover may usher us all into her newest era.

On July 12, the 25-year-old cleared her account, leaving behind a video snippet of an unreleased track. According to PopCrave, a Twitter account for culture coverage, the song is a “teaser of her upcoming single, ‘Wild Side.’” Although Normani has yet to confirm the single’s forthcoming release, her swelling fanbase believes that the premiere is nearing. And, the popstar is also dropping us some undeniable hints herself.

Normani’s latest addition to her page features her poised in a leopard bustier leotard with knee high platform boots to match as she leans inside of an aircraft. In post on Tuesday, the caption fittingly read, “take me for a ride boy.” From the looks of things, we have an inkling that we’ll be bringing in updates on the hotly-anticipated track very soon.

For now, we can’t help but envision what this new era will bring but it may tap in further into the singer’s roots. “I come from a super pop girl group, but I grew up listening to 90s R&B, which is pretty much what I still listen to every single day,” she said of the influence of the genre to W Magazine. When her 2019 breakout single “Motivation” released, it felt like a refresher of Beyoncé’s “Check Up On It,” while her luminous starpower and endearing girl-next-door persona recalled the magnetic charisma of the late ’90s legend Aaliyah. If Normani is brooking any opinions at the moment, we are here to stay for a continued immersion in the nostalgia of the iconic late noughties and early aughts fusion era.
