The metaverse is still a concept many of us are trying to understand; however, as the digital realm continues to gain popularity, organizations and brands are figuring out how to use it to impact the modern generation. The Mandela Family Long Walk to Freedom brand announced on Tuesday, March 22, that they’ll be ushering in Nelson Mandela’s legacy into the metaverse to celebrate his life and lasting influence on the world. The Web 3.0 project titled “A Long Walk to Meta: Mandelaverse” will support the Mandela Education Programme, an initiative to expand access to books and the Mandela Digital Learning Platform to children in Africa and beyond.
“My father was a great champion of education and believed it was the most powerful weapon we could use to change the world. Web 3.0 holds the promise of a decentralized, community-driven paradigm shift that will allow a new generation to democratize and restore the power of creators.” says Mandela’s daughter, HRH Princess Zenani Mandela Dlamini. “It is here that we will amplify African voices, connect a global community through storytelling, and uphold the legacy, principles, and values of a revolutionary man.”
Working with leading brand strategy and digital product studio TinyWins, Phoenix James Art Haus, and Range Media Partners, the Mandela Family hopes to merge IRL and URL. The project will feature four NFT collections and extend into traditional media, including TV and film with an animated series for kids, and a documentary on the former South African president’s legacy. Further connecting the digital world with the real world, the first of the four NFTs will be released in May 2022 and include 100 silver and gold collectible (digital) coins that will give access to an immersive holographic Mandelaverse Gala in Los Angeles later this summer. One of the lucky gold coin holders and a guest will have the chance to experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Johannesburg, South Africa and a private safari.
