Half the year is gone, your watchlist is somehow longer than ever, and Netflix has just handed us the receipts. The streamer’s mid-year report is in, and it reveals exactly what the whole world has been bingeing under the covers, on the treadmill and instead of doing literally anything else. Think psychological thrillers with married couples who suspect each other of murder, Regency heartthrobs finally falling in love, and a mystery or two guaranteed to ruin your sleep schedule in the best way. If your group chat has been speaking in spoilers you don’t understand, consider this your official cheat sheet. Here are the five shows everyone watched, counted down to the reigning champion.
The Runners-Up: Twisty
Thrillers and Epic Nostalgia 
No. 5: Run Away kicks off the top five with pure edge-of-the-sofa energy. Adapted from a Harlan Coben novel, it follows a father (James Nesbitt) whose seemingly perfect life shatters when his daughter vanishes and the last person seen with her turns up dead. Cue a spiral into a dangerous underworld and family secrets best left buried. Coben is basically the patron saint of “just one more episode,” and this one proves the point.
No. 4: Stranger Things brings us the beginning of the end, as the beloved sci-fi saga launches its fifth and final season. The Hawkins gang reunites to battle Vecna and the Mind Flayer one last time, complete with an epic showdown, a military quarantine and a very big Upside Down revelation. Consider the tissues non-optional. It is the nostalgic goodbye a generation has been dreading and craving in equal measure.
No. 3: I Will Find You is proof that we simply cannot stop watching Harlan Coben adaptations, and honestly, why would we? Sam Worthington stars as a father serving a life sentence for the murder of his own son, until evidence surfaces that his boy might still be alive, sending him on a prison-breaking, truth-hunting mission. Twisty, devastating and completely unputdownable.
The Top Two: A Ballroom Romance and a Murderous Marriage
No. 2: Bridgerton returns for its fourth season and, predictably, sends the internet into a corseted frenzy. This chapter finally centers bohemian second brother Benedict (Luke Thompson), who swears off marriage until a mysterious Lady in Silver sweeps him off his feet at his mother’s masquerade ball, only for him to discover she is actually a maid with secrets of her own. Masked-ball meet-cutes, forbidden longing and gowns worth pausing for: this is comfort viewing at its most sumptuous, and clearly we all agreed, given its jaw-dropping view count.
No. 1: His & Hers takes the crown, and the premise alone explains why. In this deliciously twisty adaptation of Alice Feeney’s psychological thriller, Tessa Thompson plays a reporter and Jon Bernthal a detective, a married but estranged couple who find themselves racing to solve a murder in their sleepy Georgia town, each convinced the other might be the killer. Marriage, mistrust and a body in a small town: it is the kind of show you start on a Tuesday and finish, bleary-eyed and gasping, by Wednesday. If you only stream one thing off this list, make it the one the entire planet already did.
