If you’re suffering from notification stress, here are the apps you should delete (or mute) as soon as possible.

In our digital age, staying constantly connected is the norm. However, with messaging apps and social media always at hand, the number of daily notifications can quickly become overwhelming. Many people are beginning to suffer from this perpetual connectivity.

According to a recent study, the average person receives around 146 notifications a day, nearly one every 10 minutes. Some receive many more.

Because of this, each ‘ping’ of a notification on your phone can trigger sudden anxiety, a burst of stress, disrupting your workflow or relaxation time.

Which Apps Cause the Most Stress

The new study conducted by technology experts at music Magpie revealed which apps are the biggest culprits of notification anxiety.

Data collected over two weeks from iPhone users in Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z indicated that WhatsApp is the primary source of stress, being the app that sends the most notifications to half of the participants.

Following closely are iMessage (the iPhone messaging app), Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and Gmail in fifth place.

Outlook, Vinted, Pinterest, and YouTube were also cited as significant sources of notifications.

How to Handle Notification Stress

If the number of notifications on your phone is causing you stress, there are several methods to manage it.

Liam Howley, Chief Marketing Officer at music Magpie, advises turning off notifications for the most intrusive apps, like WhatsApp, even if it’s just for one day a week of your choice.

Additionally, using phone settings that allow you to select time intervals during which you do not wish to receive notifications, such as during work hours or at night, can help maintain a more positive balance.

For those struggling with email management, it’s beneficial to declutter your inbox; although this may seem like an almost impossible task. A useful tip is to dedicate time each day to check and organize emails, rather than trying to tackle them all at once.

Being aware of the apps that cause the most stress and adopting strategies to manage notifications can make a significant difference in your daily well-being, helping you maintain a healthier and more balanced digital life.
