From the moment Miley Cyrus stepped out on the 2024 Grammys red carpet in a split tabi heel and covered in gilded Maison Margiela safety pins—to resemble the “Susy Sphinx” collection designer by the luxuriate’s creative director, John Galliano, for his eponymous Fall/Winter 1997 line, naturally—we knew this showgirl had stolen the show.

Like her bouffant hairdo, the occasion moment marked new heights in Cyrus’ career as she took home her first (and second!) Grammy Award later that evening. As she sang in her vintage Bob Mackie while performing the newly minted Record of the Year, “Flowers”: “Started to cry, but remembered I just won my first Grammy!”

Watch the sweet moment, below.

Now, two months later, Cyrus has reflected on what she describes as a two-decades-too-late Grammy sweep.”No shade, but I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and this is my first time actually being taken seriously at the Grammys?” the former Disney star revealed in a new profile.

“I’ve had a hard time figuring out what the measurement is there,” Cyrus questioned in relation to the slight. “If we want to talk stats and numbers, then where the f*** was I? And if you want to talk, like, impact on culture, then where the f*** was I?” Cyrus clarified: “This is not about arrogance. I am proud of myself.”

Since breaking out as a teenager in the almost roman-à-clef experience of her rise to stardom, Hannah Montana, Cyrus has fiercely and unabashedly blazed her own trail. When Cyrus swung into the Grammys as powerful as a wrecking ball, the Endless Summer Vacations songstress shared that she channelled a “childlike confidence”.

“I wrote on this dream board that I wanted to show up to the Grammys with a childlike confidence, like when a kid isn’t scared to just dive into the deep end or do a backflip because they don’t know what’s on the other side,” she offered on the performance that’s now been viewed over 33 million times on YouTube.

My 12-year-old self got to come out and play, while my 31-year-old self was in Bob Mackie with big hair.” As she told us time and time again, Cyrus can buy her own flowers. Now, she’s finally receiving the flowers she deserves.
