Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is not content with being an actress, philanthropist, and Netflix producer because now she has turned her hand to writing, revealing that she has authored a children’s novel! Inspired by the relationship she has seen between her husband Prince Harry and their son Archie, The Bench is the 39-year-old’s first children’s book. Although, don’t be surprised to see fully-grown women also reading this one.

It follows the “special bond between father and son—as seen through a mother’s eyes,” and the former Suits actress revealed that it started with a poem she wrote for Harry’s first Father’s Day in 2019. Illustrator Christian Robinson has “layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life,” she added.

“This representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens. My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine.”

Mallory Loehr, EVP & Publisher, Random House Books for Young Readers Group shared: “Meghan’s touching text explores the relationship between fathers and sons and undeniably tugs at the heartstrings that parents and caregivers feel. “The Bench is timeless—it feels destined to become one of those books that people will be reading for generations to come.”

The sweet news comes after Harry made his first public appearance following the funeral of his beloved grandfather Prince Philip. Meghan did not attend the funeral, as she was reportedly told by doctors not to make the long flight to the UK. The pair will become parents for a second time this summer, after revealing on Valentine’s Day that they are expecting a baby.

The couple released an official picture showing the two cuddled up with Markle’s growing belly on show, which was captured remotely on an iPad by longtime photographer and friend Misan Harriman.

“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” a spokesperson said in the statement.

They later shared with fans during their infamous Oprah Winfrey interview that they are expecting a baby girl.
