Can you name a more iconic trio? Because I can’t. In three separate additions of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, rapper Megan Thee Stallion, tennis player Naomi Osaka and actress Leyna Bloom all make splashes as the cover models in what can only be defined as the editorial epitome of a hot girl summer.

Megan Thee Stallion made history as the first female rapper to be featured on the cover of SI Swimsuit. She wore a beige, strappy bikini with beach waves and a baby pink manicure. Megan said in a statement that the whole experience was “magical” and that she prepared herself months ahead of this shoot.

“To be the first female rapper on the swim cover makes it extra special,” Megan said in an interview. “I had been training for months and I was super prepared. I got into the shoot right away. [Photographer] James [Macari] said he usually doesn’t get into the water until the fourth or fifth set-up, but we were both in the ocean from the start.”

The 26-year-old rapper praised SI Swimsuit for it’s dedication to diversity and inclusion, saying that the magazine leans into change instead of fearing it. Megan pinpoints her love for the magazine going back to when model Tyra Banks became the first Black model to appear solo on the cover in 1997.

But Megan isn’t the only star making history as she graces the cover of SI Swimsuit. Actress Leyna Bloom, 27, has become the first ever transgender cover model for the publication.

“This moment heals a lot of pain in the world. We deserve this moment; we have waited millions of years to show up as survivors and be seen as full humans filled with wonder,” Bloom wrote on an Instagram post. “I dedicate this cover to all ballroom femme queens past, present and future. This historical moment is important to #girlslikeus because it allows us to live and be seen.”

Last but certainly not least, tennis player Naomi Osaka made her appearance on the third cover of SI Swimsuit. The 23-year-old Olympic competitor was photographed by Yu Tsai in a paneled black one-piece with extravagant puka shell earrings. Osaka has had a busy year, not only is she set to represent Japan in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games, she has also had multiple fashions deals and is looking towards a Netflix documentary about her career.

“We celebrate Naomi for her passion, strength and power geared toward consistently breaking barriers when it comes to equality, social justice and mental health.” MJ Day, Editor in Chief of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit said. “If there’s one thing that our cover models have in common, it’s that they don’t have one thing in common. They look different, have different upbringings, have different passions and inspirations. But each is a reminder that beauty comes in many forms.”
