MCM is continuing its “MCM Creative Minds” project, which features emerging design talents, with its latest collaboration with Ghana-born artist, composer and musician, Selassie.

With a passion for sustainability, Selassie was inspired to upcycle his collection of 28 styles (including backpacks, clutches, beltbags and small leather goods) from existing MCM excess stock, and transform the pieces with bold colors and fascinating prints and patterns.

To complete the collection, Selassie added his own symbol, the Stickman, which represents humanity and reappears in various ways throughout the entire collection.

Selassie reflected on the value and the sustainability of the partnership saying in the press release, “My goal was to create a collection that represents an oeuvre, which continues to develop and grow.”

Dirk Schönberger, Global Brand Officer MCM Worldwide, said in a release, “We want to create a platform offering creative pioneers from fashion to culture, and art an innovative exchange.” He continued to praise Selassie saying, “His vision and story is extremely energetic and positive, it has been a very inspiring journey.”

All of the proceeds from the upcyled collection will benefit the Project Justine, a nonprofit Selassie is passionate about, which plans to build an educational and cultural center in Benin, West Africa. It will benefit young people who otherwise would not have access to education, receive an extensive vocational training.

This limited collection is available to shop online now until June 5.
