In a world of dating apps, dating shows like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, along with social media, few can top the matchmaking success of Laura Jacobs. She became a matchmaker at just 28. At the time, she was living in New York City and struggling to navigate the nuances of the dating world herself. Then she met a matchmaker who was working with a friend and realized it was what she wanted to do with her life.

A large matchmaking firm hired Jacobs, and then another one, giving her expertise in this industry. She now works with top firm Cinqe (pronounced sync) matchmaking. The entrepreneur puts the best of what she has to offer into Cinqe, helping singles all around the world find their ideal match. What makes her great at what she does is that she understands the struggle of finding true love. It simply isn’t easy and it takes time as well as the proper mindset.

“I have a very no-nonsense approach, but I am also very empathetic. This combination is what you really need to be an effective matchmaker and dating coach. You need to be able to provoke change in people, but know that they can lean on you when things get tough for them too,” she explains.

Between social media and dating apps — and just the culture in general, dating can feel more overwhelming than ever these days. So Jacobs advises her clients to remain open-minded. There are many different ways to find “the one.” She encourages singles to join apps as well as ask their friend for introductions, take dating courses, and use a professional matchmaker. It’s crucial to go about it from all angles. She says, “To really find someone today, it can’t just be a hobby. It has to be a top focus and priority.”

Most recently, Laura starred in The Roku Channel’s Match Me in Miami. It was the number-one streaming show the week of its debut, which is quite an accomplishment for a brand new show.

As most would imagine, there was a lot going on behind the scenes. Viewers may not know that shooting began just weeks after she gave birth to twins. “I definitely was so excited for the show, but as a first-time mom had no idea how it would feel to be away from my newborns for long days on set,” the matchmaker explains.

Though life-changing, the experience was emotionally challenging for the first-time mom. Between hormones and mom guilt most working moms have — it certainly wasn’t easy. The other cast members certainly didn’t make the experience more comfortable for Jacobs. “I definitely commend myself for getting through this time and coming out the other end,” she says.

As a result of her experience, Jacobs encourages working moms to honor their feelings and truly enjoy the time spent with their babies because it’s such a brief period.

She also recently announced she’s pregnant with another set of twin boys! While Jacobs is incredibly excited, she doesn’t plan on slowing down when it comes to work.

Roku’s hit show, Match Me in Miami, is streaming for free online.
