Assane Diop is officially the most wanted man in France. Possibly the whole world. Also, the police are after him.

Fans of Netflix’s surprise hit Lupin have spent months waiting for word on when the international thriller — and its star, France’s most debonair criminal — would return. Well, the wait is over. Today, May 11, the streamer unveiled the first trailer for the five-episode second part of the French series, and it looks like it’s going to be a dazzling, heart-racing ride!

The series follows Assane (Omar Sy) on his quest for vengeance against Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre), the wealthy tycoon who framed his Senegalese immigrant father for a theft he didn’t commit. Inspired by the tales of fictional “gentleman thief” Arsène Lupin, Assane uses his skills as a master thief to take Pellegrini down. But after a massive heist at the Louvre and lot of twists and turns and high-octane action, Part 1 ended with a stunning cliffhanger. Using his knowledge of Lupin stories Detective Youssef Guedira (Soufiane Guerrab) finally caught up to Assane — just as his young son Raoul (Etan Simon) was kidnapped by Pellegrini’s henchmen. Part 2 picks up where the series left off, with Raoul still missing, the police still after Assane, and Pellegrini seemingly working with the cops to exact some vengeance of his own.

The series was a surprise hit with viewers and critics alike and became the most streamed title on Netflix in the first quarter 2021, reaching over 70 million households. Its stylish intrigue and international flair were the perfect antidote to our pandemic-induced winter doldrums. With all five episodes of Part 2 dropping June 11, Lupin will be here once again to meet the needs of those of us longing for the eternally delayed upcoming Bond film or other big budget summer blockbusters.
