Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck tied the knot for the second time on August 20 at Affleck’s Georgia estate. While many celebrities were in attendance, The King of Queens alum (and Lopez’s close friend) Leah Remini was notably absent.
Stars like Matt Damon, Jimmy Kimmel, Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes were reported to have been at the ceremony, but fans began to wonder where Remini was. This week TMZ reported that Remini skipped the wedding to spend time with her 18-year-old daughter, Sofia Bella Pagan, who is preparing to leave for college. In an October 2021 appearance on Ellen, Remini discussed her daughter moving on to college, tearing up and saying, “I can’t even take the thought of her leaving.”
According to the outlet, Remini was invited to the ceremony, and that she and Lopez are still “very close” and consider themselves like “sisters.”
Friends since 2004, the two actresses met through Lopez’s ex-husband Marc Anthony at the premiere of the film Man on Fire. The pair went on to star alongside one another in the 2018 flick Second Act. When doing press for the film, the dynamic duo spoke to Entertainment Tonight and reminisced on how they met.
“We fell in love right there,” Lopez said. “It was one of those instant chemistry things where you just feel like, ‘I love this person. I love being around this person. This person makes me laugh.’ She’s so cool and we also have very similar upbringings. That’s why we work well together.”
Remini seemingly has been supportive of Bennifer since the early days of their reunion — because the actress shared the snap that dubbed the famous couple “Instagram official” when she posted photos from her 51st birthday bash, where Affleck and Lopez were guests.
In March, Lopez posted a video featuring Remini lovingly teasing her for looking so glamorous by the pool. “Attacked at my own damn pool by @leahremini!,” Lopez captioned snippet, hash tagging, “#summerfun #besties #canubenormal #noIcant #gottakeepitsexy #familia.”
