On November 1, Lady Gaga took to the gram ahead of her appearance at a rally in Pennsylvania for presidential candidate Joe Biden, urging people to go out to vote. The “Rain On Me” singer kept with the democratic blue theme wearing a Balmain denim shirt with exaggerated padded shoulders tucked into matching bootleg jeans from the design house’s Spring 2021 collection. Gold earrings and her signature platforms accessorized the retro inspired look.

Pulling off the classic Canadian tuxedo isn’t easy to do. The tricky denim-on-denim trend works in this case for three major reasons.

Proportions

Denim is a tough fabric with not a lot of movement so it’s important to not let its shape swallow up a silhouette. Gaga’s top with exaggerated padded shoulders and wide collar is balanced out by slim bootleg pants with a slight flare at the bottom.

Shade

Staying within the same shade of blue is the key to keeping a head-to-toe denim. An easy way to ensure that is to also stay within the same brand and and, if possible, the same collection like Gaga did for a perfect match.

Styling

Double denim speaks loudly for itself so it’s not necessary to bog an outfit down with big accessories. Her gold earrings worked in sync with the hardware details of the look while Gaga’s choice of platform shoes is perfect as they nearly disappear under her jeans and elongate her silhouette.
