Those of us with poor eyesight know exactly what it’s like to kind-of-not-really recognize someone from far away and make an attempt at calling their name to see if they respond. And it appears that this same situation happened to Kim Kardashian at this year’s Met Gala. As you’ve probably seen making the rounds on Twitter, there is a viral photo going around of Kim and sister Kendall Jenner on the white carpet. In the photo, Kendall looks perplexed as if she doesn’t know who she’s talking to, and how could she. Kim’s face and body was entirely covered in black Balenciaga fabric.
Kim confirmed that the black mask covering her face impeded her vision, which some hypothesize is an homage to ex-husband Kanye West’s recent aesthetic. The outfit sparked many memes across the Twitter-sphere, including but not limited to the interaction with Kendall. With arms outstretched as if desperately trying to convince Kendall it is indeed her sister, Kendall looks on with squinted eyes and a forward stance to get a closer look.
“Kendall was calling my name and I couldn’t see who it was but I saw the outline of her sparkly dress,” Kim wrote on her Instagram story. Regardless of how you feel about the polarizing outfit, it sparked some very entertaining and creative jokes across social media. On Twitter especially, people imagined hilarious scenarios about the interaction. I mean, with the material, the comedy writes itself at that point.
