It’s almost impossible to talk about cosmetic surgery, filters and beauty standards without the Kardashian family being mentioned in the conversation. Specifically, Kim Kardashian, who has long been thought of as Patient Zero in the cosmetics industry due to the overwhelming amount of people who attempt to change their features to match hers: there is reportedly no face more sought after than that of the 41-year-old reality TV star.
But if you thought Kardashian spent as much time with the plastic surgeon as she does filling her wardrobe with Balenciaga, the reality — according to Kardashian herself — is apparently quite different.
In a new interview with Allure, Kardashian candidly broke down exactly what she does to keep her face looking youthful and as wrinkle-free as possible, saying she currently has “a little bit of Botox,” in the space between her brows to stop frown lines, but nothing else.
“I’ve chilled, actually,” Kardashian says in the piece, adding she currently has “no filler” (which dissolves after a year) and never has had any in either her cheeks or her lips. “I’ve never filled my cheeks. I’ve never filled my lips. No filler. Never filled either one, ever.”
Kardashian also denied the less controversial things about her appearance, including that she has eyelash extensions, while confirming her eyebrows, too, are real. “I’ve never had eyelash extensions,” she said. “I’ve never done anything. I have a drop of mascara on today.”
Though this might be surprising to some — especially the hoards of young women getting treatments done thinking Kardashian is leading the charge, she did admit she spends a lot of money on other treatments, like laser. “I care. I really, genuinely care about looking good,” she said. “I probably care more than 90 per cent of the people on this planet.” She continued, “It’s not easy when you’re a mum and you’re exhausted at the end of the day or you’re in school, and I’m all of the above. I do my beauty treatments usually late at night. After everyone’s in bed, I’m doing laser treatments.”
Kardashian, who, to be fair to her, really does look the same features-wise as she did when she was young, added she’s currently at a good place in regards to her relationship with her appearance and aging. “I’m at peace with not being perfect and I wasn’t like that before,” she added. “I hate my hands—they’re wrinkly and gross. But I’ve lived life and I’ve changed so many diapers with these hands and I’ve snuggled my babies with these hands, so I’m okay with them. [Getting older] doesn’t mean that I won’t strive for perfection, but you get to a point where you’re like, ‘Okay, my health is more important than anything else.’”
“It’s hard to explain because I am at peace, but I would still do anything to look and feel youthful,” she continued (this extends to eating literal poo, as Kardashian told the NYT recently). “That doesn’t mean that I don’t know the difference from that to an unhealthy level of feeling like I can’t age. I’m 41. I always want to look appropriate. There does come a point when you’ve taken it too far—overfilled, too tight, too much cosmetic work. There’s nothing worse.”
Kardashian also addressed whether she feels guilty for her role in creating an unrealistic beauty standard for women. “If I’m doing it, it’s attainable,” she argued (meaning if you can afford her pricey nine-step skincare regime, of course). “There are so many different beauty standards—whether it’s Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Marilyn Monroe. When I was a teenager, [the look] was just blonde waifs. My mentality was never like, you see them on TV or in magazines and pick who you want to be. It was always: Be yourself, find beauty in everything.”
