Pop star Katy Perry debuted Katy Perry: Play, her Las Vegas residency show, at Resorts World Theatre last night to a sold-out crowd at the 5,000-capacity venue on the Las Vegas Strip—and the entire production, from the pop-art larger-than-life sets to the quirky themed costumes, was quintessentially Perry: colorful, bold, and bright.
“As with everything I do, Play is massively colorful for the kids, with a deep wink for the adults,” Perry said in a statement. “The show is a funny, playful trip, and was designed specifically for this theatre in Vegas. Honestly, I couldn’t ever travel this show from arena to arena. These sets are larger than life—literally—and the perfect excuse to wake up in Vegas.”
Check out some of the amazing costumes from the Katy Perry: Play show.
A quirky ’60s-inspired vinyl bubble jacket comes off to reveal a glamorous asymmetrical one-shoulder mini-dress, reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe.
In another 1960s-inspired moment, Perry wears this floor-length showgirl gown, covered in sparkling sequins and crystals in a psychedelic print.
Vinyl and high-shine pieces dominate the evening—here’s a charming little candy-striper number.
And a retro-inspired one-piece gaucho trouser set—also in vinyl.
By far, the most talked-about costume of the evening was this aluminum soda can number—which, if you see the show, you’ll know matches the set to a tee.
