Supermodel Kate Moss was called as a witness and appeared in court Wednesday morning in ex-boyfriend, actor Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. Earlier this month, Heard took the stand in court, and referenced an unverified violent incident that allegedly happened between Moss and Depp.
Appearing via video at the Fairfax County Circuit Courthouse in Fairfax, Virginia, Moss answered questions relating to the rumored encounter that Depp once pushed her down a flight of stairs.
When asked about a vacation with Depp in Jamaica, Moss described the sequence of events. “We were leaving the room, and Johnny left the room before I did,” the model recalled during her testimony. “There had been a rainstorm, and as I left the room, I slid down the stairs and I hurt my back. And I screamed because I didn’t know what had happened to me and I was in pain. And he came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention.”
When asked if Depp pushed her down the stairs at any point in time, Moss responded, “No. He never pushed me, kicked me, or threw me down any stairs.” Heard’s defense team declined to cross-examine Moss.

The supermodel was not originally slated to be called as a witness, but since her name was brought up during Heard’s testimony, Depp reserves the right to call witnesses identified by the defense, in order to confirm or refute Heard’s claims.
During her testimony, Heard described an argument she had with Depp in 2015. Heard alleged that her sister Whitney Henriquez was “in the line of fire” and that the actor had allegedly attempted to strike her sister, who was standing at the top of a staircase.
“I remembered information I had heard [that] he pushed a former girlfriend — I believe it was Kate Moss — down the stairs,” Heard said in her testimony. “I don’t hesitate. I don’t wait. I instantly think of Kate Moss and the stairs, and I swung at him. In all of my relationship to date with Johnny, I hadn’t landed a blow. And I, for the first time, hit him — like, actually hit him. Square in the face.”
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor is suing his ex-wife for libel after she wrote an op-ed article for The Washington Post in 2018. While Heard never referred to Depp by name, she referred to herself as a survivor of domestic violence.
Depp and Moss dated between 1994 and 1998.
