When Jennifer Lopez accepted the Vanguard Award at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, it was said then that Jenny From The Block’s lightening pace of achievements was simply unbelievable. Her success – believed to be at its pinnacle – was compared to her childhood where she bathed in the hum and the fumes of the Cross Bronx Expressway.
The 2018 VMAs moment came before she starred in the Lorene Scarfaria-directed film Hustlers, before her electric Super Bowl performance, before she launched her beauty brand, and before she reignited her relationship with Ben Affleck.
Today, she’s in an even better place.
Just days after her Cartier moment with Affleck at the Venice International Film Festival, Lopez took to the stage this evening at the 2021 MTV VMAs at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn looking so happy. The surprise appearance was to present the award for Song of the Year, which went to Olivia Rodrigo for “Driver’s License.”
In an embellished, black and silver mini skirt held together by laces (did I mention earlier that the official dress code of any VMA season is lace-up anything?) and crop, Lopez looked incredible (and captioned one of her Instagram stories with “Beauty has no expiration date”. Indeed it does not.)
Speaking about her own happiness, Lopez recently opened up to Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe. “I’m super happy. I know people are always wondering. How are you? What’s going on? Are you okay? This is it. I’ve never been better,” she said. “And I want my people who care about me because I care about them so much, to know that I’ve really gotten to a place in my life where I’m great on my own. And I think once you get to that place, then amazing things happen to you that you never imagine in your life happening again. And so that is where I’m at. And I love all the love that’s coming my way right now and all of the, the good wishes. And I just want everybody to know that it’s the best time. It’s the best time of my life.”
Strappy, stringy, sparkly for the win.
More to come.
