It reads exactly like the plot of a bad 90s rom-com: Two of the world’s most famous celebrities fall in love, break up, spend decades in the spotlight, get married to other people, go through heartbreak(s), then realize they’re meant for each other…. And subsequently, take off to Montana in a private jet!

We’re less than a week into Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s rekindled romance and already it feels like it was all written in the stars—or into a PR contract, depending on whose side you’re on.

Alex Rodriguez is neither (he’s in a separate category made specifically for cheating exes who now want a second chance), but Affleck’s long-time BFF Matt Damon is on the former.

After the early aughts It couple reunited publicly last week in LA, before taking off for a romantic weekend together in Montana, Damon has given the pair his blessing.

Responding to a question about the pair’s “intense” reunion while appearing on TODAY, Damon claimed it was “the first time” he’d heard about the development.

“It’s a fascinating story,” he said, adding: “I hope it’s true. I love them both. That would be awesome.”

Meanwhile, it appears this reunion was right there in front of us all for months—we were just too caught up in staring at Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s Instagram activity (read: finger sucking) to spot it.

Back in April, JLo’s 30-year career, and her recent success with Hustlers, was celebrated. In a magazine profile, many of the singer and actor’s friends and colleagues sang her praises, from ex-husband Marc Anthony to Michelle Obama. Notably absent from the piece was her then-fiance, ARod.

But notably included, and singing many, many praises was one Ben Affleck. “She remains, to this day, the hardest-working person I’ve come across in this business,” he gushed. “She has great talent, but she has also worked very hard for her success, and I’m so happy for her that she seems, at long last, to be getting the credit she deserves.”

Furthermore(!), TMZ alleges Affleck began emailing (cheugy!) Lopez in February, when she and ARod were still very much together. Reportedly, the emails weren’t platonic either.

Affleck allegedly wrote to his ex after he saw photos of her in the Dominican Republic (where she was filming her upcoming movie, Shotgun Wedding), telling her how beautiful she looked and expressing he wished he could be there with her. Wow, ok.

Meanwhile, a source has told E!, Lopez “wants to give it a shot with Ben.”

“They never really had closure and she has always wondered what could have been,” they shared. “The timing was never right and they were in different places until now.”

“She finally has had the opportunity to spend time with him and see where this could lead,” they continued. “They are very comfortable together and it’s easy. She wants to keep seeing him and is very happy.”

That’s all for now, folks. Now all we need is for this pandemic to be over and for red carpets to be back in action. Can you imagine Bennifer on the Met Gala red carpet?!
