A Beaux-Arts mansion, a Hollywood legend and the home where she raised six children. Some celebrity homes are investments. Angelina Jolie’s Los Feliz estate was something else: a refuge bought at one of the most difficult moments of her life. Nine years later, that chapter has closed.
In 2017, in the middle of her divorce from Brad Pitt, Jolie paid $24.5 million for the historic estate once owned by Hollywood pioneer Cecil B. DeMille. This fall, the property sold for $24.75 million, and the identity of the buyer has become a story of its own.
A House With Hollywood History
The mansion was designed by architect B. Cooper Corbett in 1913, according to The Celeb Post, and sits on about two acres in Los Feliz. DeMille, the director behind The Ten Commandments, lived there until his death in 1959.
When Jolie bought it, the Beaux-Arts home had just undergone a six-year restoration, AOL reported at the time. It offered six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a swimming pool, a library, a fitness room, a wood-paneled dining room, rolling lawns and rose gardens, with views of the Hollywood Hills, the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Observatory.
A Family Home for Six Children
Jolie moved there with her six children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Vivienne and Knox, after the split. For nearly a decade, it served as the family’s base in Los Angeles, where custody arrangements required her to stay while her youngest children were minors, according to Time News.
The Sale and the Madonna Rumor
Jolie listed the estate in May for $29.85 million. It sold on September 24 for $24.75 million, about $5 million below asking but slightly above what she paid, according to TMZ, as reported by The Celeb Post.
Shortly after, several outlets, citing Robb Report, named Madonna as the buyer. The listing team quickly pushed back. Ernie Carswell, co-listing agent with The Society Group, said on the show Real Talk: “That’s not true.” He explained that a non-disclosure agreement protects the buyer and that the team had given no clues. “They kind of pulled something out of the air that’s not true,” he added. The real buyer has not been named.
Carswell also said potential buyers had to pass background checks, to screen out visitors who only wanted to see the house, and that the sale “ended quite well for our client.”
Why She Is Spending Less Time in Los Angeles
The sale did not come as a surprise. Jolie has long said she would leave Los Angeles once her children were grown. “As soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024. The twins turned 18 in July.
According to Time News, people close to her say she plans to spend extended periods in Cambodia, where she has kept a rural home for more than two decades, alongside her humanitarian work and travel.
The End of a Chapter
For Jolie, the DeMille estate was never just a trophy property. It was the home where she rebuilt her family’s life after a very public separation. In 2017, she bought one of Hollywood’s most storied houses. Nine years later, it has a new owner, whose name remains a secret, and she is free to live wherever she chooses.
