Natural wavy hairstyles are still a trend in 2024. But how to make wavy hair quickly, and especially how to make wavy hair without a straightener? In this article, we share seven different ways you can achieve fabulous wavy locks.

1. How to Make Wavy Hair with a Hairdryer

With the classic blow-dry and a round brush, you can create a very natural wavy effect. The important thing is to choose the right brush to roll the strands.

Want a more defined look? Then choose a brush with a narrow diameter. If you want a less defined wave, a brush with a wide diameter is perfect.

To create wavy hairstyles using a hairdryer, remember to dry the rolled strand on the brush with a gentle movement from top to bottom. Proceed in this way, strand by strand, individually, making sure that the hairdryer is neither too hot nor too close to the hair. Want a more defined and vintage mood? Fix each strand with a duckbill clip after completing the styling, and only release them after a few hours.

2. How to Make Wavy Hair with a Straightener

The straightener is the easiest tool to use for wavy hairstyles. Work on dry hair one strand at a time by wrapping it in the straightener, and then twist it, holding it inclined towards the ends.

Love flat waves? You can create flat waves with one of the many wavy plates designed specifically to achieve that effect quickly and easily. Here’s a roundup of wavy hairstyles created with a straightener.

3. How to Have Wavy Hair Without a Straightener

Do you have curly hair but want a wavy and sinuous effect without first straightening and restyling your hair with a straightener? Here’s how to make wavy hair without a straightener.

After detangling wet hair, remove excess water, and on damp hair, start creating your styling with a flat brush. Dry the hair from top to bottom with the nozzle vertically, continuing to gently brush the hair. In this way, you will significantly reduce the volume of the hair and temporarily “break” the curls.

However, remember that such styling, if done too often, could risk compromising the beauty and elasticity of your curly hair. For an extra touch, finish styling with a few drops of hair oil. If, instead, you start with straight spaghetti-like hair, create braids and leave them on overnight. The next morning, undo them and… look at yourself in the mirror!

4. Curls Without a Straightener? Try Braids

Don’t want to use any type of tool to create easy wavy hairstyles? The secret is to make braids with slightly damp hair on which to spray a primer. Keep the hair collected as much as you can (an entire night is ideal, but even a few hours could be enough). In the morning, undo the braids and work the strands with your hands to give more volume to the hair: you will get fabulous waves!

5. Wavy Hair with the Sock Method

Here, finally, a very original method, the sock method, which is very simple. Make a very high ponytail, like when you create a high chignon in the center of the head. Then insert the hair into the sock and roll it up, fixing the bun with a hair tie. You can keep the top knot all night, releasing the hair in the morning.

6. DIY Curlers

Another method is that of curlers, which allow you to create a wavy, more or less defined hair look depending on the type.

Generally, for medium wavy hairstyles, smaller curlers are used on wet hair. They require a more or less long exposure time.

With a hairdryer, you can achieve a salon-like styling. Finding the product that’s right for you is not difficult because there are many other types on the market: from self-heating ones to those in soft sponge, to silicone or ultra-tech ones with built-in brushes. There are also foam stick rollers (flexible curlers) to create twists.

Much depends on the type. In general, they are applied to damp or wet hair—this applies to classic ones or those in sponge, foam, or silicone can also be used on dry hair. Always keep in mind that styling with wet hair curlers will last much longer, while styles on dry hair will not last more than a day.

If you want a voluminous wavy hairstyle, you can apply the curlers starting from the tips of the hair, fixing them in the upper part of the head. Those who want a simpler hairdo can apply the rollers always from the tips but stopping at mid-length.

7. How to Make Wavy Hair Quickly on a Short Cut

Those with short hair or a medium-length haircut have many possibilities.

If you don’t want to use a straightener, do this: after washing and blotting your hair, use a texturizing and/or heat protection product; divide your hair into small locks and twist them on themselves. Fix the locks to the head with hairpins and let the lengths air dry, or use a hairdryer with a diffuser at medium temperature.

Here are some examples of short wavy hairstyles.
