After multiple artists boycotted the awards ceremony this year, there was one thing that could save the Grammys, and he came and did so in a feather boa. For Harry Styles’ milestone Grammys debut, wherein he was nominated for three awards (and took home one: best solo performance for his hit single “Watermelon Sugar”), the British musician wore not one, but two perfect outfits.
Styles is a Gucci boy through and through and for his first on-stage performance this year, he enlisted the brand’s creative director Alessandro Michele to create both his red carpet and on-stage looks for the night: one, a camp British tea party number and the other, oozing rock star sex appeal.
Upon arriving, Styles donned a green and yellow check tweed jacket and tartan vest combo worn with a lavender boa, brown flare pants and pastel yellow boots. The look screams Styles: camp, colorful, and eccentric and immediately sent fans into hysteria.
But the real surprise came when Styles stepped on stage in a completely different and wildly sexy look. Given he was performing his Californian summer anthem, “Watermelon Sugar,” the expectation was another bright and cheery outfit. Instead, Styles and his stylist Harry Lambert decided to go in the complete opposite direction: the 27-year-old wore a black leather cropped jacket and matching pants paired with a mint boa.
Underneath his jacket, Styles showed off his ridiculously taut stomach, wearing nothing but a gold cross necklace. Forget Paul Mescal’s silver chain, someone start a fan account for this necklace STAT.
During the song, Styles grabbed his boa and threw it towards what usually would have been the crowd, making for this beautiful image that deserves its own Grammy:
Later in the night, eagle-eyed fans spotted a moment between Styles and his ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift. The pair, who dated eight years ago—between late 2012 and early 2013, were seen speaking backstage, taking off their masks for the conversation.

When Styles won “Watermelon Sugar,” Swift stood and clapped for him, despite her being nominated in the same category and losing out to her former beau.

Styles is rumored to have inspired at least two songs on Swift’s 2014 album 1989, specifically “Style” and “Out of the Woods.” In 2017, Styles said that he “didn’t know” whether the tracks were about him, but added: “I’m lucky if everything [we went through] helped create those songs. That’s what hits your heart.”
