The Grammys took place over the weekend at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and the event was a mixed bag, emotionally. There was plenty to celebrate (Billie Eilish being the youngest artist ever to take out the big four), but it was also washed with grief, given just hours before, basketball legend Kobe Bryant tragically died in a helicopter crash (along with his daughter, Gianni, and seven other passengers).
Touching tributes aside, the music community banded together to celebrate each other’s achievements, doing so in true Grammys style. The dresses were big, makeup was bright and in other emerging trends this awards season, the nails were anything but ordinary. Camila Cabello’s first manicure of the night was this black French stiletto nail.
Followed closely by baby pink – fitting for her matching Versace outfit as she performed onstage (serenading her father at the time).
Lizzo went all out Hollywood glamour with a lengthy white manicure complete with glitter embellishments and a dangling crystal.
Star of the night Billie Eilish went for a logomania from head to toe. The Bad Guy singer wore a green Gucci outfit, as well as a green Gucci manicure in a vibrant shade of chartreuse. According to her nail artist, Emi Kudo, the nail design and color were commissioned by Billie’s team two weeks prior. Because she needed something easy to remove, the nails were large press-ons, hand painted by two skilled technicians using a custom blend of O.P.I colors. The entire process took four hours, and was done the night before the awards at Billie’s family home.
Dua Lipa went for checkerboard pink and white digits studded with tiny crystals. The Don’t Stop Now singer paired the statement nails with a creamy white silk set and bold blue eyeshadow.
Actress Priyanka Chopra paid tribute to Kobe Bryant, sketching the number 24 onto her nail, referring to Bryant’s Los Angeles Laker jersey number.
