As the future Queen of England, Kate Middleton’s sartorial choices have the power to influence millions of people, and she often uses that power to highlight the work of small British designers. The latest? Grace Han, the Taiwanese-British leather goods designer, who launched her eponymous label in 2019.
Middleton stepped out wearing a black top-handle tote from the brand’s ‘Love Letter’ collection yesterday morning, while attending a royal engagement at London’s Waterloo station. Kate paired the handbag with a red knee-skimming coat by her long-time favorite brand, Alexander McQueen, and a sensible block heel.
The Duchess and Prince William’s appearance was to meet with the finalists of a photography competition that Kate created during lockdown. Dubbed ‘Hold Still,’ and organized in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery, the competition aimed to highlight emerging and amateur photographers and asked entrants to capture an image that represented Britain during lockdown.
More than 31,000 images were submitted, with the 100 finalists having their work displayed online as part of a digital exhibition. “I felt really strongly that I wanted to try and create a portrait of the nation, that captures the fears and the hopes and the feelings of the nation at this really extraordinary time,” Kate said of the project. “As a record, I suppose, for the years to come.”
