Spotted: Gossip Girl’s making her grand return to the Upper East Side on July 8. This time around you can get the latest news directly to your phone, as well. The official Instagram page released a New York phone number — (917) 809-4277 — as their “official hotline, and you better believe things are about to get hot this summer.” Our new GG insider contact also dropped a quick teaser Friday morning featuring a few of the incoming Upper East Siders. “You’ve gotten so comfortable, thinking you’re in control,” Kristen Bell, who is reprising her iconic role as the voice of Gossip Girl, says in the teaser. HBO Max dropped the first teaser for its series reboot, featuring a new crop of teenagers being surveilled by the mysterious blogger.
The new series picks up eight years after the original concluded, when “a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media— and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years.” Jordan Alexander, Evan Mock, Savannah Smith, Emily Alyn Lind, Whitney Peak, and Eli Brown are just a few of the newcomers that will star in the classic hit series reboot.
The original series creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will return as executive producers. Schwartz hopes more alum from the original cast will make an appearance. “We’ve reached out to all of them to let them know it was happening, and we’d love for them to be involved if they want to be involved, but certainly didn’t want to make it contingent upon [them being involved],” Schwartz says. “They played these characters for six years, and if they felt like they were good with that, we want to respect that, but obviously it would be great to see them again.” Regardless, the OG characters will be mentioned by the new cast at one point or another. Whether you’re an OG from day one or a newcomer into the world of Gossip Girl, the show’s modernized take on social media, love triangles and outcasts will be a treat. xoxo!
