Glossier bestsellers Balm Dotcom and Bow Brow deserve a spot in the dictionary. They’re cool-girl makeup essentials that, simply put, get the job done — and look really freakin’ cute in an Instagram shelfie. But the brand’s latest campaign is less about aesthetics and more about empowering badass beauty lovers everywhere.

To promote two new Body Hero additions, the brand enlisted the help of eight Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) stars: Seattle Storm’s Sue Bird, LA Sparks’ Seimone Augustus, Minnesota Lynx’s Lexie Brown, Atlanta Dream’s Kalani Brown, New York Liberty’s Amanda Zahui B, Indiana Fever’s Natalie Achonwa as well as Chicago Sky’s Stefanie Dolson, and Gabby Williams. Each of the athletes sent the brand personal clips called “Body Stories.” Glossier intends to release these videos in the coming weeks.

Glossier founder and CEO Emily Weiss considers the WNBA to be the perfect example of what it means to be a Body Hero. “They’re a community with a long history of championing equality and challenging the status quo,” she wrote in a blog post. “Watching them lead by example on and off the court in 2020 has been nothing short of awe-inspiring.”

We can’t take about the campaign without talking about the new athlete-approved skincare products. First up is the Body Hero Exfoliating Bar ($14), developed to make your skin as soft as possible — without making a mess of your shower.

The coolest part about this product is that the bar has a groove where you can apply a pump of your favorite body wash. The purpose of this is to give your skin extra nourishment while you exfoliate.

The brand designed this product with the environment in mind. The exfoliating bar’s packaging is recyclable, and the exfoliating particles are biodegradable. Once it’s gone, it’s gone for good (unfortunate for you, good for the world).

The second launch is the Body Hero Dry-Touch Oil Mist ($28), which was born to be used after exfoliating in the shower. The key is to spray it onto your skin while it’s a little damp to reap all of the hydrating, skin-softening benefits.

Glossier unveiled its Body Hero line in 2017 with two products: its Daily Oil Wash ($18) and Daily Perfecting Cream ($22). Its Hand Cream ($18), which launched in April 2020, is arguably the most popular item in the collection. As the date implies, this product was launched amid the coronavirus pandemic. The brand generously donated 10,000 tubes to essential workers on the frontlines.

“One of the most frequent requests we’ve received during this time is for a hand cream,” Weiss wrote in a blog post at the time of launch. “As it happens, our community has been asking the same thing: We’ve been working on Glossier Hand Cream for nearly two years, and have been so excited to bring it into the world this spring.”

One reviewer and medical worker calls the hydrating formula “a nurse’s Holy Grail.”
