Bella Hadid is no stranger to undertaking drastic beauty transformations in the name of fashion—but her latest look may also be her most memorable. Attending the virtual front row for Kim Jones’ autumn fall 2021 collection for Dior Homme (other attendees included Kim Kardashian and Lila Moss Hack), Hadid wore a peroxide blonde pixie cut wig and bold pink eyeshadow, channeling her inner Debbie Harry. Hadid—who is a long-time face of Dior beauty—partnered the bold beauty look with a relatively demure tailored black silk suit, a menswear look which also featured in the new collection.

Granted, Hadid’s transformation was temporary—but this isn’t the first time an A-lister has convinced us to embrace the shaggy blonde crop. Miley Cyrus has been championing the look throughout 2020—it’s been a core part of her rebrand as a modern glam rock icon, which has also included a whole slew of 80s-inspired outfits while she promotes her new album, Plastic Hearts.

In fact, the cropped blonde pixie cut is an enduring hairstyle, dating back to the original British supermodel Twiggy, who first pioneered the look back in the 60s. Mia Farrow’s iteration in Rosemary’s Baby is likely to go down in history as one of the most iconic on-screen haircuts (Jean Seberg in Breathless being a close second); while in the 80s we saw Madonna take the look to new heights in the video for Papa Don’t Preach. In recent years, we’ve seen every starlet from Jennifer Lawrence to Zendaya and Zoë Kravitz embrace the look—and few could argue with Michelle Williams’ utterly elegant take.

In short? The blonde pixie cut isn’t actually as drastic a transformation as you might imagine. And seeing as we’re looking toward a fresh start in 2021, maybe it’s time to shake things up.
