This fall and winter, ready or not, are all about cozy, warm tones: think autumn aesthetics with a pumpkin and cinnamon spice twist. Halloween’s influence lends a goth-grunge touch that we’re eager to extend throughout the year. Alongside this fall vibe, “makeup trends from the ’90s are experiencing a significant comeback,” says Mat Wulff, a professional makeup artist at Glamour US

So, is it any surprise that the shades we’ll be wearing till the end of winter will have a dose of nostalgia from the 2000s/2010s, like the brown lip or the resurgence of the smokey fox eye? To update your fall-winter makeup palette with the right hues, here are 6 trends identified by Glamour Magazine that you can’t afford to miss this season.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Makeup

This fall-winter makeup—true to its name—is inspired by the colors of fall. It entails warm makeup that reminds one of a spiced pumpkin latte.

Achieve it using copper, brick, or rust hues. The trick is to use a bronzer as eyeshadow for warmth and depth in your look while coordinating with your cheeks. Apply a highlighter atop the bronzer base on the eyes and cheeks for a subtle glow. Complete the look with a brown lip pencil paired with a clear gloss for that natural autumn shade.

Cinnamon Spice Makeup

Another nod to the ’90s makeup trend is the cinnamon spice makeup. Brown tones match a wide range of skin colors and offer a straightforward way to elevate your daily makeup. Plus, the monochromatic look is universally flattering, providing a polished finish to your overall appearance.

Soft Grunge Inspired by Gothic Makeup

The 2023 take on glam goth grunge is “less about strict adherence to typical makeup rules and more about the attitude of style,” says the American makeup artist. Use a soft, yet pigmented eyeliner in rich black, deep brown, and even dark greens or blues for a mystical aura in your eyes.

Dark Lips

Dark lips are making a comeback for fall-winter makeup, unsurprising given the ’90s grunge influence. For moody lips, go for deep burgundy, rich plum, or even dark cherry shades. “The edges can be slightly blurred for a less polished, more grunge feel, or they can be defined and precise to modernize the look with contemporary touches,” explains Wulff.

Dewy Skin for a Sheer Makeup Look

“Radiant, dewy skin is a timeless trend that resurfaces season after season.” The trend continues as part of must-have fall-winter makeup looks this 2023. The focus isn’t on layering products—instead, it’s about using fewer but multi-functional and highly effective products. Think foundation-serums that already contain skin-boosting ingredients.

Cream Blush for a Natural Finish

Another trick for dewy skin? Swap out your powder products for a cream blush. Creams blend seamlessly into the skin, delivering a more natural rosy finish than powder counterparts. The end result is a frosted, polished, and healthy complexion.
