Emma Stone, In Louis Vuitton, Leads Ensemble Cast At The “Kinds Of Kindness” Premiere In Cannes
Provocative and plunging, just like the film
Emma Stone’s third turn at working with film director Yorgos Lanthimos is shaping up to be another Oscar-worthy one—if her tiered, burgundy Louis Vuitton gown at the Kinds of Kindness premiere in Cannes is anything to go by.
The intricate beading and plunging neckline did all the speaking, a complicated and dark-hued prelude to Stone and Lanthimos’ absurdist triptych film. Yes, Kinds Of Kindness—a disturbing three-story movie set in and around New Orleans—is getting a big thumbs up in Cannes this morning. The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw gave the “unnerving” and “amusing” film four of five stars noting it felt “heavier and longer than I expected.” Variety’s Peter Debruge said it had him “squirming for nearly three hours” with its “triple helping of strange.”
For Stone’s part, she plays the marine biologist wife of a police officer who suspects that she has been replaced by a double after she returns home from being stranded on a desert island for months.
Stone was joined in Cannes by co-stars Margaret Qualley, Hunter Schafer, Joe Alwyn, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Hong Chau and Mamoudou Athie. Take a look.
The film premiere comes on the heels of Stone winning Best Actress at this year’s Academy Awards for her role as Bella Baxter, a woman with the mind of an infant. Stone also took home Best Actress at the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs. If history tells us anything, Kinds Of Kindness is clearly just another part of the Stone-Lanthimos tour de force.
