If you’re still reeling from the incredible chaos that was Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, we have some great news. Fresh off the back of four Oscar wins, the team behind the dramedy will be back on our screens very soon with the upcoming release of Kinds of Kindness.
Directed by Lanthimos and starring Emma Stone, who also worked together on The Favourite, the latest film promises a world of action-packed and thought-provoking stories, all surely tied up neatly with some stellar costumery.
Filmed in 2022 over just two months, early reports note that Kinds of Kindness will have an anthology structure following a slew of characters on their respective journeys. Below is everything we know about the upcoming film.
Who will star in Kinds of Kindness?
Just like Lanthimos’ other productions, the film boasts an A-list cast. Stars of Poor Things; Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley will reunite for Kinds of Kindness, along with Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer.
What is the plot of Kinds of Kindness?
According to the official release, Kinds of Kindness is a “triptych fable” about “a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife, who was missing at sea, has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.”
The film has been adapted from a screenplay Lanthimos co-wrote with Efthimis Filippou, but its official trailer doesn’t give too much away. Flashing scenes reveal a lifeless body being dragged down a hallway, Stone whizzing through open roads in a purple sports car, Plemons copping a slap to the face from Qualley, Chau licking a body, Alwyn getting injured, two unidentified people making out, and Schafer performing some kind of ritual.
When does Kinds of Kindness come out?
Having been held back since completed, the film is set for a June 21, 2024 release date in the U.S. More details regarding when the rest of the world can expect to see it are still to come.
