Despite it being 2021, body shaming is still alive and well on the internet. No one is immune to the social media hate, even model and now New York Times best-selling author, Emily Ratajkowski. The 30-year-old published a throwback photo from the CFDAs on Instagram overnight wearing a Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2022 ensemble. Her midriff on full display.

According to the model, she second-guessed wether to publish it. “CFDAs ! thank you @miumiu and congratulations @ninagarcia (almost didn’t post this bc I knew the controversy it would stir up but hey it’s my body and I’m not going to lean into the shaming! God bless!),” she captioned the post.

The controversy Ratajkowski is seemingly referring to is her first social media posts since giving birth to her son Sylvester, with Sebastian Bear-McClard in March. In an interview with Howard Stern, the model recalled the hate she received on her post-pregnancy body.

“People were really angry,” Ratajkowski said “I posted some video in pyjamas that my company had just launched … [One woman] was so mad. She was like … ‘She wants us to know that she ‘snapped back.’ This is unrealistic pressure.’ “Listen, my body is different. I have a little extra skin still.”

She added of her pregnancy, “My body was just changing and there’s not only my life but this little baby’s life on the line,” she recalled. “It was blowing my mind that my body was taking care of another life and mine so much that it actually kind of made me appreciate the way my body can be outside of the way it looks.”

Ratajkowski recently released her debut book My Body where she details the complicated relationship she has had with the media and her body since adolescence. In a collection of essays she discusses topics including being groped on the set of “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke and growing up in the modelling industry.
