When it comes to her street style, Emily Ratajkowski usually opts to use her enviable — and infamous — abs to make a style statement, so much so that it was officially declared spring in the fashion universe when she was seen wearing a crop top again in New York City earlier this month.
But for her latest look, the model, author and podcast host turned instead to statement trousers, endorsing the chaps trend that’s slowly but surely been infiltrating down through the runways and fashion collections and onto the bodies of those brave enough to road test it.
Ratajkowski, who stars in Marc Jacobs’ new Monogram spring campaign, which shows her holding monogrammed bags while wearing a slew of different looks, including a cropped corset with a long white denim skirt, a white T-shirt with matching opera gloves, an oversized white denim jacket with coordinating baggy pants, and posing topless with a pair of faded jeans, hunted down IRL posters while walking her dog, pasted onto a wall in New York.
Posing in front of the images of herself for Instagram, Ratajkowski wore an outfit consisting of a glossy dark brown jacket, which she wore buttoned up, and a pair of blue denim and olive green trousers made to look like chaps.
She topped the look off with white sneakers, adding a black belt with a gold buckle to her already extra trousers, wearing black rectangular sunglasses and a mini black shoulder bag. Her dog, Colombo, fit with a pink leash, posed for the camera alongside her.
Of course, EmRata isn’t the first to endorse the return of the early aughts favored chaps trends, seen on the likes of Christina Aguilera at the time. Julia Fox wore her own pair back in February, though hers were, in her signature way, more revealing (showing off her bare butt cheeks), and Marc Jacobs’ Heaven diffusion label has a pair for sale currently, which we’re guessing will soon be seen on the likes of Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa.
Abs for spring is so 2022. This year it’s all about the chaps.
