Awards season is in the home stretch. We’ve had the Golden Globes, an eventful SAGs (which saw the internet-breaking reunion of Brad and Jen), and a somber Grammys, overshadowed by the tragic death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna. Today, in London, the second-to-last Awards event of the season, the BAFTAs, took place, which saw some spectacular sartorial highlights on the red carpet.
Here, GRAZIA editors share their top picks from London’s top night in cinema.
Emilia Clarke in Schiaparelli Haute Couture
“Since her rise to fame thanks to Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke always stuns on the red carpet. However for the BAFTAs, her style took a refined turn in a black Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown. A fitting touch for awards season, I love the addition of the glitzy, sapphire embellishments on an otherwise simple look.” – Rebekah Clark, Editorial Assistant
Jodie Turner-Smith in Gucci
“Zoë Kravitz in Saint Laurent and Emilia Clarke in Schiaparelli both looked stunning, but I’m currently obsessed with all things Jodie Turner-Smith and seeing her in this bright yellow Gucci gown with her baby bump on full display – not to mention Joshua Jackson as a plus one – was by far my favorite red carpet moment of the night.” – Isabelle Truman, Contributing Editor
Zoë Kravitz in Saint Laurent
“Again Kravitz knocks it out of the red carpet ballpark in this shimmering Saint Laurent sheath with slight power shoulder (and perfect pop of orange!). She can do no wrong in my eyes.” – Emily Algar, Beauty Editor
Saoirse Ronan in Upcycled Gucci
“I too was a fan of Jodie Turner-Smith’s spectacular, retina-searing, yellow-sequinned Gucci gown, but I’m giving my top fashion prize to Saoirse Ronan for a reason different from aesthetics (although its balloon skirt was perfect), because she chose to go recycled. One of the only actresses to take heed of the BAFTAs memo about sustainable fashion (on Friday they announced guests had been given a set of fashion guidelines as part of a wider attempt to reduce its carbon footprint), Ronan wore a black Gucci ballgown made of discarded satin. Beautiful and considered – what more could you want?” – Chrisanthi Kaliviotis, Fashion Features Editor
