Dua Lipa continues her reign of not only the Instagram photo dump—she was dubbed “the true master” of the new social media phenomenon by The Cut—but of ‘90s and Y2K-era fashion. Alongside her friend (and boyfriend’s sister) Bella Hadid, Lipa has been championing everything from low-rise jeans to colorful plastic-look jewellery to trucker caps.

She’s also been embracing the cut-out trend, wearing up-and-coming British designer Nensi Dojaka—one of the most coveted brands in the UK right now—to hang out with Elton John, recently:

In her most recent Instagram dump, captioned simply “4 the thrill 🩸,” Lipa took the cut-out trend one step further than even Hadid has, wearing a pair of black pants with a cut-out not on the hips, but at the front.

Putting a sexy twist on a suit, Lipa wore Dion Lee’s leather single link bra and wire jersey pants underneath an oversized pinstripe blazer. She accessorized with a ‘90s chain-link bag by Givenchy and kept her look playful with silver hoop earrings, colorful-tipped acrylic nails and a pink puffer phone case by Urban Sophistication.

On her Instagram Stories, Lipa noted that her beauty look was a DIY effort, adding that she’s “been playing around doing my own make-up” over close-ups of her eye look.

Unfortunately for the millions who follow her every fashion moment, Lipa didn’t make it to fashion’s biggest night out, the Met Gala this year. Ahead of the event, the 26-year-old told fans she had prior obligations that got in the way of her celebrating America in New York. But despite the red carpet letdown, Lipa will soon be on our screens: she was busy filming her first acting role in a movie called Argylle.

Bella Hadid didn’t make it to the Met, either, prompting people to speculate she didn’t meet their double vaxxed requirements. Taking to Instagram to shut the reports down, Hadid shared a photo of herself at the vaccination centre with the caption, “For anyone concerned.”

Here’s hoping next year we get Lipa, Hadid and a whole lot of cut-outs on the Met Gala steps.
