Unfortunately, if you were looking forward to seeing Dua Lipa walk this year’s Met Gala red carpet, you won’t be getting that. Apparently, the 26-year-old singer is making her film debut in an upcoming spy thriller, titled Argylle, like the sweater but only with two L’s instead of one. This year’s Met Gala has already been rife with controversy including a rumor that TikTok and social media influencers were included on the guest list, but we cleared that up.

Lipa last walked the Met Gala red carpet, or pink carpet, in 2019 for Camp: Notes On Fashion. She wore an intricate and extravagant Atelier Versace gown, dripping in purples, greens and rainbows of paisleys, and who can forget the hair that reached the heavens that was ever-so adorned with multicolored jewels.

A source told TMZ that Lipa is “among a slew of celebs invited to the famous fundraising ball in NYC this month, but she had to decline because she’s busy filming for the upcoming action thriller, Argylle.”

Starring along the likes of Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena and Samuel L. Jackson, the Argylle is directed by Matthew Vaughn. Vaughn also directed Kingsmen, so hopefully that’s some indication as to where this movie is stylistically headed. He said of the movie “‘When I read this early draft manuscript I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the 50s. This is going to reinvent the spy genre.”

The movie, which is Lipa’s film debut, follows the story of “the world’s number one spy” as he travels about in international countries such as the United States and London. Sorry James Bond and Austin Powers, looks like this new movie is trying to dethrone you. But Lipa’s hand in the movie doesn’t just include acting, she also contributed to the score of the film.

For some reason, Lipa taking on the role something akin to a Bond-girl or an evil mastermind just makes complete sense.
