Drake wasn’t hiding his son, Adonis, from the world Sunday night. The 34-year-old rapper accepted Billboard’s Artist of the Decade award accompanied by Adonis himself. Only two artists hold the high honor before him: Mariah Carey, who was recognized for dominating the ‘90s, and Eminem, who previously took control of the charts in the ‘00s. After a video highlighting his incredible career played, Drake walked out on stage hand-in-hand with his 3-year-old son Adonis to accept the award. “Thank you very much,” he said during the speech. “That video was really full of a lot of confidence and bravado, but you know the truth is, I’m really bad at taking compliments. I’m really self-conscious about my music. Even if I do a good job, I always wonder how I could have done it better. I rarely celebrate anything,” he continued. “For anyone watching this that’s wondering how this happened, that’s really the answer: It’s being so unsure how you’re getting it done that you just keep going in the hopes of figuring out the formula. Feeling so lucky and blessed that the fear of losing it keeps you up at night.”

Drake used his artist of the decade speech to remind others that he too questions if his work is up to standard. “Even if I do a good job I always wonder if I could have done better,” he says. “For anyone who’s watching this that’s wondering how this happened, you know that’s really the answer. It’s being so unsure of how you’re getting it done that you just kind of keep going in the hopes of figuring out the formula. I didn’t really write a grandiose speech about how to make it work or what it took, ’cause you know, to be really honest with you I don’t quite understand it myself,” he continued.

He then gave a special shoutout to his friends, his longtime collaborators and his peers, whose music he said has him “tossing and turning at night trying to figure out what I should do next.” He also thanked his “beautiful family” and turned his attention to his son, who had broken out into tears by the speech’s end. “I want to dedicate this to you,” he said as he picked Adonis up. Adonis, sadly, was over the award and began to cry just as Drake finished his speech. Fans joked that maybe the decorated artist wasn’t hiding his son, Adonis simply didn’t want to be seen.

The Canadian artist was nominated in seven categories at this year’s show, including top artist. Earlier in the night, he won the award for top streaming songs artist. Drake’s decade-long run on the Billboard charts is historic. It includes nine No. 1 albums, 45 top 10 singles, and 232 Hot 100 entries. Drake’s latest Scary Hours installment, Scary Hours 2 debuted with each song simultaneously taking the top three spots on the Hot 100. “What’s Next” ope
