Country music icon, Dolly Parton, is officially going to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction class was officially announced on Wednesday and Parton graciously accepted the prestigious spot on Instagram writing, “I will continue to work hard and try to live up to the honor.”
You may remember the 10-time Grammy winner respectfully declined her initial nomination earlier this year.
“Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right. I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out,” the singer wrote on Instagram in March.
Supportive fans in the comments commended her for being so gracious, but it was pretty unanimous everyone wanted to see her accept this prestigious nomination.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation responded a few days later saying nominations had already been sent to voters.
In an interview with NPR, Parton spoke about turning down the nomination saying, “I’ll accept gracefully. I would just say thanks and I’ll accept it because the fans vote.”
She continued, “When I said that, it was always my belief that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was for the people in rock music, and I have found out lately that it’s not necessarily that. So I just felt like I would be taking away from someone that maybe deserved it, certainly more than me, because I never considered myself a rock artist. But obviously, there’s more to it than that.”
Parton will be inducted into the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics Judas Priest, Jimmy Jam and Jerry Lewis, Allen Grubman, Jimmy Iovine, Sylvia Robinson, and Elizabeth Cotten.
According to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, for an artist to be considered they must have released their first record 25 years prior to the induction.
The induction ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on November 5.
