On March 2, Dolly Parton got Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine. The 75-year-old country singer documented the exciting moment for her 4 million Instagram followers, wearing a sparkly navy blue cold-shoulder top for the occasion. A day later, Hilary Clinton took to the social media platform to praise the star’s vaccine fashion and to share a throwback image of herself embracing the cutout style, too. “Loved seeing @dollyparton bring back the cold shoulder as a vaccination look,” she wrote in the accompanying caption. “Shall we make this a trend?”
Naturally, vaccine tops have become a thing. In the weeks since Parton posed that photo, followed by Clinton and then Christie Brinkley, social media users have officially dubbed the trend “vaccine shirts.” This nickname basically speaks for itself, but in other words, this style top gives medical workers easy access to the injection site and won’t leave you scrambling to roll up your sleeves while you could be posing for a photo à la Parton.
Celebrities aren’t the only ones inspiring the spring-summer trend. According to the SS21 runways, the cutout shirt trend might be here to stay, as seen on the catwalk at Prada, Gabriela Heart, Kenzo (and more). The skin-baring fad took the form of everything from subtle cold-shoulder sweaters to trousers with gaping holes, proving that there’s no wrong way to wear it this season…and next.
