COMME des GARÇONS has partnered with Eli Russell Linnetz‘s label, ERL, for their first collaborative perfume called “Sunscreen”.  When we first heard of the product, we definitely thought CDG was moving into the suncare space, and after a brief moment of confusion, let’s just say our interests were piqued by the latest launch, which promises to smell like the summer you lost your innocence in the best way possible.

CDG describes the scent as “evoking the fleeting memory of a nostalgic summer. Feelings of the warm West Coast sun against salty skin transform into cool splashes of ocean water and chlorine suspended in the air. The scent of Venice Beach, California.” The fragrance, which has been two years in the making, comes complete with top notes of bergamot oil and solar accord, and middle notes comprising lily of the valley, heliotrope, and peach — all of which dry down to a base layer of musk, cedarwood oil, and coconut accord. This isn’t like traditional coconut scents, which can be cloying and overpowering — the musk and cedar make this a much easier and palatable option, clearly leaning hard on ERL’s Venice Beach-inspired brand.

And let’s not sleep on the packaging, either — the brand chose to innovate further, with Eli Russell Linnetz designing something akin to a summer float. The packaging features a limited-edition inflatable sleeve that suspends a heavily branded glass bottle inside.

The perfume is available for $115 ($100 for limited edition inflatable packaging) at COMME des GARÇONS and Dover Street Market stores worldwide, as well as select retail stores starting July 19.
