Whether it be in a bodycon minidress or sheer haute couture, A-list brides are switching up traditional wedding looks with some unconventional dresses. Both Kourtney Kardashian and Chloë Sevigny exchanged vows with their significant others over the weekend in looks that deserve another take. Taking place at a California courthouse (Kardashian) and a chapel in Connecticut (Sevigny), the stars opted for the peak of glamor, while simultaneously reinventing the bridal standard.

Both celebs crafted fashion-forward ensembles for their second celebrations. Kardashian finally sealed the deal with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker after the pair’s Las Vegas “practice wedding” in April, while Sevigny and gallerist Siniša Mačković threw their bash after having officially tied the knot at city hall in March 2020.

Kardashian opted for an ivory curve-hugging minidress to say “I do” at her Santa Barbara courthouse ceremony. Emblazoned with a gold heart jewel on the bodice, the reality star’s custom Dolce & Gabbana was teamed with a shoulder-length veil, a statement cross necklace, fingerless opera gloves, and a pair of suede pumps.

With Barker suited up in a black jacket and pants, the couple posed on the courthouse steps and in their convertible with a sign attached reading, “Just Married.”

Kardashian joined the likes of actress Raquel Welch and musician Yoko Ono to opt for surprisingly short wedding dresses for their special days. Welch wed Hollywood producer Patrick Curtis in 1967 wearing a crochet minidress for the occasion. Ono married Beatle John Lennon in 1969 sporting a white minidress as well, this time dressing up her ensemble with a wide-brim sun hat, oversized sunglasses, white knee-high socks and matching sneakers.

Wearing all black and a white veil to her New York City Hall nuptials in 2020, Chloë Sevigny joined the likes of actress Sarah Jessica Parker with her black bridalwear.

Opting for an abundance of wedding ensembles for her second ceremony, Sevigny wore a sheer Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture sheer gown designed by Glenn Martins for her white chapel wedding.

Making multiple outfit changes, Sevigny swapped out her couture for a flouncy Loewe by Jonathan Anderson frock, and saving the best for last, Sevigny changed into a sheer lace Mugler catsuit designed by Casey Cadwallader. Replete with a sculpted bustier, and a bellbottom flair to the hem, Sevigny showed off her fashion bona fides for the celebratory affair.

Of course, Kardashian Sevigny, Welch and Ono aren’t the only celebs to who have opted for surprising wedding day ensembles. Mandy Moore, Jessica Biel, and Kaley Cuoco all walked down the aisle in pink, while model Emily Ratajkowski tied the knot in a marigold pantsuit. We just hope more celebs keep the unconventional trend coming.
