Nearly two years ago, Normani exploded the internet with her ultrapop throwback track, ‘Motivation’. Seriously, the hold that song had on our culture for the next few months was airtight, and the antici…pation surrounding Normani’s full-length release was loud. Welp, here we are, in the summer of 2021, and she’s finally delivered a follow up with the added caveat of a Cardi B feature — the Rule #1 in the Pop Girl’s Guide To Creating A Hit. “Wild Side” feels designed for the moment, with a stark-designed video and an Aaliyah sample, we couldn’t ask for anything more from two fo the biggest names in the game, right?

Correct. Cardi’s makeup in the video is particularly marvelous — it’s so nice to see her in a gorgeous, simple face, taking the “nude” element of the video to the nth degree. She looks so stunning, we were dying to know how they did it.

Longtime makeup artist Erika La’ Pearl shared a breakdown of Cardi’s look on Instagram, much to our relief. The look itself uses a ton of high-performing products created by and for Black people and people of color. La’ Pearl prepped Cardi’s skin for makeup using Urban Skin Rx’s bakuchiol-infused Reti-Glow Gentle Resurfacing Night Oil ($23) with the brand’s ultra-moisturizing HydraBalance Instant Moisture Infusion ($34) moisturizer, which boasts both hyaluronic acid and squalane — the dream duo for moisturizing.

La’Pearl then went with products made by Mother herself, Pat McGrath. She started with the brand’s Skin Fetish Sublime Perfection Primer ($45). Next, she applied Skin Fetish Sublime Perfection Concealer ($32) in a blend of Medium 15 and Medium 16, as well as a mixture of Sublime Perfection Foundation ($68) in shades Medium 16, medium 17, and Medium 18 using a Beauty Blender ($20) and Morphe’s MUA Life Brush Collection ($80). La’ Pearl set the entire base with Pat McGrath’s Skin Fetish Sublime Perfection Powder ($38) in shade Light Medium 2, and the Sublime Perfection Blurring Under-Eye Setting Powder ($30) in Medium. The eye makeup look is also from Pat McGrath, using the brand’s Mothership VIII Divine Rose II Palette ($125) and Venus in Fleurs Luxe Quad ($58) in Voyeuristic Vixen, before lining the eyes with PermaGel Utra Eye Pencil ($28) in Black Coffee. The eyes finshed with a bold lash from Tatti Lashes, the Triple Threat ($11), kind of like Cardi herself. The brows were from Anastasia Beverly Hills (because of course), and La’ Pearl finished Cardi’s face with Pat McGrath’s Skin Fetish Divine Glow Highlighter ($48), Skin Fetish Divine Blush ($38) in Desert Orchid on cheeks, and a touch of Lust Gloss ($28) in Earth Angel on the lips.

Spend the rest of the day celebrating the end of the Normani Drought and watch the Wild Side video no less than 100 times.
