Burberry FW21

Burberry Global Beauty Director, Isamaya Ffrench, is an artist by every definition of the word, so it’s no surprise that the famed British makeup expert and beauty executive was responsible for dreaming up the beauty look for Riccardo Tisci’s first-ever menswear-focused presentation entitled “Escapes.” The chief creative officer describes the collection as “an exploration of the relationship between humanity and the outdoors.”

The luxury fashion house unveiled the Fall-Winter 2021 collection on Monday, February 22, at the label’s flagship store in London. Like the majority of fashion shows held amid the coronavirus pandemic, Burberry FW21 menswear was presented virtually without a live audience. For Ffrench, that brought the challenge of creating a compelling beauty look that transcended the screen while staying aligned with Tisci’s overall message.

Tisci also wanted his first menswear-focused collection to celebrate the freedom of expression. “Enclosed indoors, I dreamed of the outdoors and its beauty, fueled by the thought of the creativity that comes when we are together,” the Italian fashion designer explains in a social media statement. “With this dream in mind, I became fascinated by the widespread British craft and outdoor movements of the early 20th century, when people escaped to explore the unknown countryside.”

Ffrench sought to create a “celestial makeup” look in line with the outerwear-focused collection’s inspiration, represented by even, luminous skin, perfectly groomed brows, and naturally dewy lips. But perhaps the most memorable part of the beauty look was the stars she hand-painted on a select few models’ faces, paired with gemstones and metallic star-shaped appliques.

“We started thinking about how stars could look really beautiful, almost dream-like, so we created these constellations,” Ffrench explains on social media. “They harken back to nature, this vastness of a night sky.” Even if you don’t see yourself using false eyelash glue to stick gemstones to your face in a more elevated way than you did during childhood, the makeup artist makes a strong case for experimenting with your skincare-first makeup regimen. As demonstrated by Ffrench, you can still make an impact as a makeup minimalist.

To achieve such a radiant complexion, Ffrench used the Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Gel Stick, teamed with the brand’s Fresh Glow Foundation, both of which are available to shop below. Burberry
