Hollywood stars buy vineyards all the time. Few of them end up running one. In the hills of Provence, Brad Pitt’s Château Miraval has become a working organic estate, famous for a rosé that once disappeared from shelves in a matter of hours, and for a legal battle that has followed it for years.
In short
- Château Miraval covers about 400 hectares, or roughly 990 acres, in Provence, with 30 hectares of organic vines.
- Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie leased it in 2008, bought it in 2011 and married in its chapel in 2014.
- Its 2012 rosé, released in March 2013, sold out within hours.
A château in the hills of Provence
Miraval sits near the village of Correns, in Provence. According to its Wikipedia entry, the domain covers about 400 hectares, or 990 acres, with 30 hectares of organic vines on the valley floor. Pitt and Jolie’s lease, with an option to buy, became public in 2008, and the couple bought the estate in 2011, in partnership with winemaker Marc Perrin.
In August 2014, the couple married in the château’s chapel.
From film set dream to organic farm
What Pitt built there is less glamorous and more agricultural than its reputation suggests. Argentina’s La Nación describes it as a chemical-free agricultural and wine reserve, with native forests, centuries-old olive groves and farmland around the historic château. The estate also produces organic olive oil, and its vineyards are certified under the Côtes de Provence and Coteaux Varois appellations.
The partnership with the Perrin family, one of France’s best-known winemaking dynasties, gave the project credibility from day one. Like Julianne Moore’s West Village home, it is a celebrity property whose details matter more than its price tag.
The rosé that vanished in hours
The first proof came quickly. The Miraval 2012 rosé was released in March 2013 and sold out within hours. The wine is still sold under the Miraval label.
Pitt’s private life keeps fascinating fans, as his recent words about Jennifer Aniston showed, but Miraval remains the most tangible trace of his years with Jolie.
A legal fight that won’t go away
After their separation, Jolie sold her 50% stake in October 2021 to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli Group. Pitt argued that their agreement barred either of them from selling without the other’s consent, and he went to court in February 2022. Years later, the case is still producing new rulings: in 2026 alone, courts have handed partial wins to both sides, as Gulf News and The Express Tribune have reported. Pitt is now 62 and Jolie 51, and the château they once shared remains at the center of their story.
The limit
Figures on the estate’s current production and value vary between sources and have not been confirmed by Miraval, and the legal dispute is ongoing.
The bottom line
Brad Pitt came to Provence as a movie star looking for a hideaway. He ended up with an organic farm, a best-selling rosé and the most complicated property in Hollywood.
