Sayonara to the meld of goth and hip-hop streetwear that propelled Billie Eilish in her breakout era, and a refreshing hello to the global phenom’s age of platinum blonde hair and earthy undertones! In the June 2021 issue of British Vogue, the Ocean Eyes singer unveiled her new look and left fans absolutely floored at her internet-breaking reintroduction of her identity. For all of us anxiously awaiting to be immersed in the experience of what is on the horizon of her renewed image, Eilish delivered us the teaser we needed with her latest visual release for kiss-off single “Lost Cause.”

In the self-directed video, Eilish and her all-girl crew (outfitted in Kim Kardashian’s loungewear brand, Skims) throw a summer slumber party in what resembles a Hype House-esque mansion. Announcing the visual release via Instagram, she wrote “We had to times of our lives being hot and shooting this,” and we absolutely place emphasis on *being hot.* Reminiscent of a more subdued version of Beyoncé’s “7/11” music video, Eilish and her gal pals are twerking, playing Twister, spraying Silly String, and shooting water guns as she croons a lyrical “f*ck you” to an ex. Marked by her oversized clothing, which she still subtly incorporates as the mainstay in her attire, this venture into a little more cleavage (just like every other teen girl does) feels like another milestone in the 19-year-old’s ownership of her body image.

The single, which is the second single from her forthcoming album, is definitely a youthful “Ladies, leave your man at home and kick it with the girls” anthem. The singer opens the chorus with, “Thought you had your sh*t together, but damn, I was wrong/You ain’t nothin’ but a lost cause,” as her girls groove to a casual one-two step choreo and of course, hype her on as the emphatically recites the lyrics. In all honesty, the song is the perfect way to commence a hot girl summer sans any of our old baggage (including current boyfriends and occasional flings) trailing us. We’re hoping to hear more middle-fingered tunes as we await Eilish’s sophomore album Happier Than Ever, set to release July 30.
